Try-Tac-Toe is a game for two players or teams. The first player uses an X mark and the second player uses an O mark. Alternating turns, players place their X and O marks in any one of the seventy-four triangle shapes on the playing grid. A game consists of two matches. During a match, each player attempts to form geometric shapes by claiming four triangles with their marks. The challenge is to form as many shapes as possible while blocking an opponent's attempt to form shapes. A match is finished when (1) the playing gird is filled, (2) players concede that no more shape scores are possible, or (3) an established time limit expires. Player X starts the first match and player O starts the second match. The player's scores from both matches are added together to determine the game winner.
Basic Team Rules
Team player consists of two players per team: "X" team and "O" team. Team members sit across from one another. The playing sequence moves in a clockwise (from player's left to right) direction just like in singles' play, an "X" player starts the first match and an "O" player starts the second match. The winning team is determined by totaling the scores from both matches.
Scoring
The object is for each player to accumulate scoring points by marking and claiming four adjacent triangles to form one of the following geometric shapes:
When two or more shapes are formed within a grouping of claimed triangles, the shapes are scored separately, i.e., claimed triangles that make up one shape can be used to complete another shape.
How two shapes can be scored with one mark:
Blocking
Each player attempts to form as many scoring shapes as possible while blocking the opponent's ability to form a scoring shape.
Keeping Track of Points and Totaling the Match and Game Score
When a player forms one of the three shapes during play, the shape is immediately recorded with a slash mark in its tally box to the right of the playing grid.
At the end of the match, the slash marks for each shape are added up and multiplied by the shape value for the shape score. Then the three shape scores are added for the player's match score. Match One and Match Two scores are added together for the Game Score.
